Ninebanks Youth Hostel & chalet are two adjacent buildings that offer 4 star high quality accommodation, perfect for individuals, couples, families and groups alike.
The hostel building has 28 beds in 6 en-suite rooms, named after minerals associated with the local historic lead-mining industry. We have everything you need to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, from our cosy sitting room, complete with log burner and well-stocked bookshelves, to our large kitchen and 30-seat, under-floor heated dining room.
Outside the front door of the hostel is a terrace and sitting area with a firepit, plus a lower patio area with a picnic table. Round the side, the dining room opens on to an enclosed barbecue area with another two picnic tables including a small one for the children.
Just behind the hostel, the chalet has two self-contained studio rooms. Both rooms have their own entrance, a shower room, kitchenette, table and a sitting area with a wood burning stove. There is a connecting door which can be unlocked if both rooms are booked together.
DOGS
Dogs are welcome to accompany those booking the chalet, or booking the whole hostel; there is a small charge for this and dogs must be booked in advance because we limit the number on site at any one time.
LIVING SPACE
There is a spacious dining room with underfloor heating that can be used for a variety of purposes including study, family parties, business meetings and workshops – as well as eating! The dining room links to a smaller but characterful sitting room which has a flagged floor, wood burning stove and awesome views. The dining room and sitting room both connect to the kitchen forming a great social space.
COOKING, EATING AND DRINKING
Ninebanks is a self catering hostel with probably the best self catering kitchen you will find in a Youth Hostel.
Equipment includes two domestic sized cookers, microwave, fridge freezer, all crockery, utensils and tea towels. All you need to bring is the food – or arrange a supermarket delivery to arrive during your stay.
However if you’ve booked the whole hostel we can offer a flexible catering service for you and your group. We are happy to feed hungry cyclists or cater for a family birthday party, a school group or special celebration dinner – whatever you need!
We can provide just one or all of your meals with menus and times to suit you. The only thing we can’t do is share the kitchen with you. If you think you would like us to cook for you please talk to us and we can create the right plan for you.
We also sell local ales from the Allendale brewery and a selection of good wines. We are happy to take larger orders for mini casks and beer boxes from the brewery and have them set up ready for you.

PARKING
There is parking for about nine vehicles on the roadside at the front of the hostel.
