Here are some of the most frequently asked questions:

Do we need to bring bedding?

No you don’t, beds are made up ready for you. You will need to bring towels except for chalet rooms where towels are provided

Can we bring our dog?

This depends on what accommodation you have booked;

Chalet: If you have booked a chalet room it is usually possible to bring up to 2 dogs for a small charge but please check with us first as we limit the total number of dogs on site at any time. Service dogs are always welcome.

Whole Hostel bookings: If you have booked the whole hostel on Exclusive Hire up to 2 dogs are welcome to stay with you in designated rooms for a small charge.

Beds and hostel rooms: Sorry we cannot accept dogs staying with you unless you have booked sole use of the hostel. Service dogs are always welcome.

Where is the nearest pub?

There are pubs a few miles away in Whitfield, Allendale, Allenheads and Alston

We sell local ales from the Allendale brewery and a selection of good wines. For group bookings we are happy to take larger orders for mini casks and beer boxes and have them set up ready for you. Our licence does not allow you to bring your own alcohol unless you have booked sole use of the hostel or chalet room.

Can I get to Ninebanks by public transport?

It’s not easy. Trains will get you to Haydon Bridge 11 miles or Hexham 15 miles, buses are run by Wrights Bros in Alston, it’s best to check before you travel (Tel 01434 381200).

There are also buses from Hexham to Allendale 7 miles away- the 688 service

Taxis can booked for the last section of journey Eco cabs in Hexham have cars and minibuses and coaches and bike trailers. Is there parking? Yes there is parking along the roadside at the front of the hostel for cars and minibuses.

Can I charge my electric vehicle?

Yes the hostel has two electric vehicle charging posts outside the hostel for guests use, it is best to book these in advance so we can reserve your space.

Can we bring a coach?

Coaches can drop off and pick up but there is nowhere nearby to park large coaches. If you need to bring a coach please ask and we will arrange parking for you.

Can you recommend…?

If we can’t personally recommend a good boarding kennel, route, place to eat etc. we will put a request on Facebook for other people’s recommendations.

Our nearest shops are seven miles away in Allendale or Alston, the nearest fuel is in Alston to the south, or Hexham travelling north.

eating out

As for eating out, there are a number of places: the nearest pub is four miles away, there are plenty in Allendale and Alston; and cafes sprinkled all over the North Pennines. Ask us for recommendations.
