Hostel Accommodation

Ninebanks Youth hostel offers 4 star high quality accommodation, perfect for individuals, couples, families and groups alike. We have everything you need to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, from our cosy sitting room, complete with log burner and well-stocked bookshelves, to our large kitchen and 30-seat, under-floor heated dining room.

There are 28 beds in six rooms. Five are en-suite and the sixth has a private shower room adjacent. All beds are made up ready for your arrival. Please bring your own towels and toiletries.

The North Pennines landscape was shaped by the lead mining industry and the rooms are named after minerals found nearby - there's a mineral cabinet in the dining room if you want to see what your room's namesake looks like!

The bedrooms are in two wings.

In the former mineshop are four bedrooms:
• Malachite and Galena both have a double bed with a single over and can be booked at a two or three person rate. Malachite has space for a cot
• Baryte has four beds in two sets of bunks
• Sphalerite has six beds in three sets of bunks, has the shower room adjacent and can be booked as a 5 or 6 bed room. Above the sitting room in the original cottage are a further two bedrooms:
• Fluorite has four beds in two sets of bunks
• Witherite has eight beds in four sets of bunks, it has an en suite shower room and adjacent toilet.

Cooking eating and drinking

Ninebanks is a self catering hostel with probably the best self catering kitchen in a Youth Hostel.

Equipment includes 2 x domestic sized cookers, microwave, fridge freezer, all crockery, utensils and tea towels. All you need to bring is the food.

For groups however we can often offer a catering service, we are happy to feed hungry cyclists or cater a birthday party we can provide just one or all of your meals with menus and times to suit you. The only thing we can’t do is share the kitchen. If you think you would like us to cook for you please talk to us.

There is a small shop selling local ales from the Allendale brewery and a selection of good wines as well as basic food supplies. Our licence does not allow guests to bring their own drinks except where they have sole use of the hostel.

You'll find more information in the food and drink section.

Living space

There is a spacious dining room that can be used for a variety of purposes including study, family parties, business meetings and circus workshops - as well as eating! The dining room links to a smaller but characterful flagged-floor sitting room which has its own wood burning stove and awesome views.
